The NTRCA exam process is done in 3 steps. These include the preliminary MCQ exam, written exam, and viva. In this case, each exam has a specific syllabus and marks. As such, the preliminary MCQ exam syllabus is the same for all. That means all the candidates will participate in the exam with the same questions as per the post. Which will be based on MCQ questions from Bengali, English, General Mathematics, and General Knowledge.

After that, those who qualify for the preliminary examination will appear for the written examination on the syllabus of their respective subjects. Similarly, those who pass the written test will again take part in the oral test and on passing will qualify to become a professional teacher. Below is a detailed discussion about the exam topics, syllabus, and marks for each phase.

Preliminary (MCQ) Exam

18th NTRCA candidates will participate in the preliminary examination with separate question papers in three stages (School Phase II, School Phase, and College Level). The preliminary examination is a Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type carrying 100 marks. This exam will have 100 questions and all answers are required in 1 hour. In case of answer verification, the OMR machine will evaluate your answer sheet. Each correct answer will earn you 1 mark, but an additional 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Subjects and Marks: The subjects and marks distribution for the preliminary test are as follows:

Subject Marks

Written Exam Mark and Syllabus

Candidates who appeared in the preliminary test with up to 40% marks can participate in the written exam. In this case, each subject in the written examination, worth 100 marks, takes 3 hours to complete. After that, candidates will be selected for the oral examination based on their written exam scores.

Written Exam Syllabus: The written exam will consist of questions from the candidates’ respective chosen subjects. In this case, questions will be formulated based on your Honors or equivalent syllabus. If you have any practical subject then a written and practical test will be conducted out of 100 marks. For example, Fine arts candidates have a written test of 50 marks and a drawing test of 50 marks in 3 hours.

Viva (Oral Examination)

The oral test is worth 20 marks. It consists of two parts: educational qualification certificates and a question-answer section. To be eligible for the merit list, you must score at least 40% in both parts of the oral examination.
